Cambio managing director Lasse Schulz reports on a constant increase in new customers-about 50 a month. Over the past few years, Cambio has even added ten new cars in Neustadt. According to customer surveys, a car sharing vehicle replaces an average of up to 14 private cars, which reduces the pressure on the streets and the parking space. At the Zion community center, only two of the four cars announced are available due to a construction site. Last but not least, this is also the reason why the traffic authority is planning current measures: To make it easier to use car sharing, two new stations on Lahnstrasse/corner Rheinstraße and Erlenstraße/corner of Donaustraße should start operating this year.

In a long -term perspective, the traffic authority would like to expand the infrastructure by a total of three new locations by 2027. There are suggestions for new locations in Hohentor, Neustadt, Südervorstadt, Buntentor and Gartenstadt South. New stations are also being planned in Huckelriede by 2029, especially in connection with planned new development areas.

Cambio: A pioneer of car sharing

Cambio, a car sharing provider with over 2,000 stations in Germany and Belgium, was founded 25 years ago under the name "Stadtuto Bremen". With more than 530 car sharing cars in Bremen alone, it can be seen how much this form of mobility grew compared to the approximately 300,000 cars at the beginning of 2024. The number of users speak a clear language: there are around 5.5 million car sharing users all over Germany.

The advantages of car sharing are clear: you can use a car without having to own it. Whether in the free floating or stationary model, the modern reservation via the app or website makes it easy to have a car available. The Federal Association of Carsharing estimates that a car sharing car can replace up to 16 cars, while the ADAC estimates the number up to six cars. Scientific studies suggest that the actual influence on car ownership could be lower, but car sharing proves to be advantageous in urban areas. It often looks different in rural regions, there are often only a few stations due to high costs and poor connection to public transport.

So the signs for car sharing in Bremen are on growth. The possibilities are versatile and the willingness of the Bremen: inside, switching to this sustainable mobility solution is becoming increasingly clear. So the coming years should bring exciting developments.
