Bremen scores highly in the ADAC test: night buses to the surrounding area are now very good!
Bremen's nighttime public transport connections prove to be extremely reliable. A current test by the ADAC examined the offers on weekends and shows that the connections between Bremen and five surrounding cities perform very well. There is a considerable choice of transport options available to passengers, particularly between 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. So if you want to head home after a sociable evening in Bremen's nightlife, you can rely on a sensible connection. According to buten un binnen, there are a total of two to four connections available for the routes to Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Achim, Weyhe, Stuhr and Delmenhorst, with travel times varying between 21 and 31 minutes.
The connection couldn't be better: the maximum transfer time and the walking distance are only ten minutes or are often even non-existent. Bremen shares the “very good” rating with cities such as Düsseldorf, Augsburg, Hanover and Frankfurt am Main, thus proving its position as one of the leading cities for night connections. In contrast, places like Lübeck, Osnabrück, Potsdam and Erfurt do not fare so well and struggle with rather limited connections.
Night offers in a cross-country comparison
The ADAC study covered a total of 100 local transport connections in 20 major German cities. The focus on communities with a younger population shows that the Saturday evening offer is particularly important for those under 18. They are barred from entering restaurants after midnight without being accompanied by an adult, which underlines the importance of nighttime connections. The cities were evaluated in two time windows: from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and from 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. In Bremen, the trips were also convincing according to the critical criteria, such as number of changes and travel speed, which further increases the positive rating.
In Stuttgart, for example, where tests were also carried out, the local transport service only received an overall rating of “good”. Here, the connection from the city area to Kornwestheim, Fellbach, Esslingen, Echterdingen and Gerlingen was difficult for the first hour, as there was only one connection to Kornwestheim and Esslingen. In the later hours, however, the situation there improved, which somehow also benefits the Bremen model. According to ADAC, the city is ultimately ahead, although a critical aspect can be found in the electronic timetable information: after 1 a.m., as in Stuttgart, sometimes no connections were displayed, but they were actually available.
All in all, the study shows that Bremen is well positioned for lots, parties or late-night activities thanks to its reliable night connections. The ADAC's recommendations to check current timetable changes before returning and to use various sources of information are not only useful in this context, but also advisable.
Overall, Bremen is taking a big step forward with its sophisticated public transport network, especially at night. And this is exactly the key to urban quality of life: if you get home safely, you stop more often to enjoy the nights in the city. We can only hope that the positive development will continue in the future. For detailed information, the results of the ADAC investigation are available at adac.de.
