BSW demands gas from Russia and warns of arms madness in Lower Saxony!

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is causing a stir in the political landscape of Lower Saxony and Bremen. A year after the founding of its regional associations, the party would like to take a clear position. The Lower Saxony co-boss Holger Onken has made it clear that he rejects a greater focus on the arms industry. In his own words: “The construction of tanks and frigates cannot replace the production of cars and cruise ships.”[Borken newspaper]

Onken advocates technology-open production in the auto industry, which should also accommodate low-consumption combustion engines and hybrid vehicles. “Giving up your technological lead is industrial policy madness,” he warned. The BSW is also calling for a reduction in energy prices for consumers and the economy, including purchasing gas from Russia. This shows the pragmatic stance of the party, which presents itself as an alternative to the established political forces.

In a ZDF broadcast, Prime Minister Stephan Weil also expressed positive views on the importance of the arms industry as an economic factor. However, he noted that in reality weapons could be produced, which he finds unfortunate.[n-tv]
