Bremen, Deutschland - Today is a very special day for Michael Zetterer, because the goalkeeper of Werder Bremen celebrates its 30th birthday. Zetterer has achieved a lot in his career, but now he has great sporting goals in mind that he wants to realize with the new coach Horst Steffen.

After two scarce bankruptcy in qualification for the European Cup, motivation in Bremen is high. "We have Europe in the cross," says Zetterer optimistic. The new coach Steffen, who previously was active with SV Elversberg in the 2nd Bundesliga, is planning an offensive style of play, which is very accommodating to the strong keeper.

The way to Werder

Zetterer's path to the professional started in youth. At the age of eleven he switched to SpVgg Unterhaching and went through all youth teams there. His first contract followed as a professional in 2012. After various rental businesses, including at Austria Klagenfurt, he finally found his sporting home in Bremen in 2015, where he has had a contract until at least 2018 since then. Although he was not the number one at first, he quickly fought his way up.

Last season Zetterer was not only the stammer goalkeeper, but also played every minute in the Bundesliga. His challenger, the 21-year-old Mio Backhaus, will find it difficult to take the place from Zetterer, because coach Steffen has already confirmed the Bayern-Boy that he stays number one in the goal.

The challenge in the new season

The coming season promises to be exciting. The first five games run the Bremen squad against strong opponents: Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, SC Freiburg and the all -important classic against Bayern Munich . But for Zetterer, who has been noticed by enormous fighting spirit in recent years, these are no insurmountable hurdles.

"I am optimistic that we will master this challenge," he assures. And despite the rumors of change around his person, the goalkeeper plans to continue his career in Bremen. This season he wants to not only raise his own performance, but also that of the team to a new level and thus inspire the fans.
