Anna Lüthi: How volunteer service changes and builds lives!

At a time when many young people are looking for orientation, Anna Lüthi (20) from Hanover-Bothfeld has decided to spend a year in the federal voluntary service. She will finish her service with the Johanniter in two weeks. As she says herself: “Volunteering was a great decision.” Since September of the previous year, she has gained numerous valuable experiences and developed her skills in first aid in the general training in the Hanover-Leine local association. Anna hadn't originally planned to do a voluntary year, but the interview at Johanniter was so positive that she quickly changed her mind and decided to go this route johanniter.de reports.

During the course of her service, Anna realized that she had no previous experience in first aid, apart from a driving license course. However, getting started was uncomplicated: she completed a paramedic course and a basic pedagogical seminar. After a short time, she had the opportunity to watch her mentor Lutz Knolle's first aid courses live in order to get to know the process and the different teaching styles. This exciting mix of theory and practice gave her the confidence she needed to lead courses herself. In December she successfully passed the exam to become a first aid trainer and is now running the courses on her own responsibility, which gives her great joy.

Diverse volunteer opportunities

Anna Lüthi is not the only one who has discovered the advantages of the federal voluntary service. According to bundesfreiwilligendienst.de there are a variety of placements and fields of activity. They range from training as a first aid trainer to menu services and refugee assistance. In Hanover, volunteers can provide advice, support and practical help. If you want to work in social work, this is the right place for you.

The Federal Voluntary Service is ideal for people who want to train in the medical field. The service not only offers an insight into emergency help and patient care, but also looks good on a CV, as malteser.de emphasize.

A new way of life

Through her volunteer service, Anna not only gained practical skills, but also developed a new self-confidence. Starting next October, she plans to study teaching in Hanover and continue to give first aid courses - and thus pass on her newly learned knowledge to others. Her colleagues, especially mentor Lutz Knolle and department head Sabrina Kirchner, always supported her. Anna summarizes: “I had a lot of fun working with different people and creatively designing the courses.”

The Federal Voluntary Service not only provided Anna with important experience, but also paved the way for a promising future in the education sector. And who knows – maybe she will soon be training the next generation of first aid trainers!
