Blumenthal and vegesack: fiber optic upgrade is getting closer - but where is the connection?

Bremen, Deutschland - in Bremen-Nord a lot is happening in the field of digital infrastructure. Two years ago, the German Giganetz started the sale of fiber optic connections in Blumenthal, Vegesack and Burglesum. But while many households hope for fast internet connections, the big breakthrough has so far failed to materialize. The current status? The first buildings will soon be connected to the fiber optic network, but for many others the time frame is still unclear. This reports the Weser-Kurier .

A central problem remains the quota: at least 35 percent of households must conclude contracts before the lines can be laid. Unfortunately, this quota has not yet been reached in the affected districts. However, the city of Bremen has made cooperation agreements with several telecommunications companies, including Glasfaser Nordwest and OXG to advance the expansion. So the goal was formulated to offer all households and companies a quick internet connection by 2030 if possible.

cooperation agreements and expansion plans

The fiber optic expansion in Bremen has already taken a good pace. Over 50 percent of all connections in the Bremen Land are to be made available by the end of 2025. The city of Bremen is in exchange with various telecommunications providers in order not to lose sight of even thinner populated districts such as Farge and Rekum. At the moment, however, specific expansion announcements for these areas are not yet in sight.

The cooperation with Glasfaser Northwest, which started expansion in Bremen in 2020, is particularly noteworthy. However, the company is currently not planning any further expansion in Farge-Rekum. The framework conditions for the expansion are defined in the cooperation agreement, but there are no time requirements for implementation.

availability and offer of fiber optic connections

The offers of the German Giganetz are quite attractive. With the product 600, users receive speeds of 600 Mbit/s and in the upload of 300 Mbit/s. In addition to access to the fast internet, the package also offers a telephony flat rate in the German landline with up to three phone numbers. In the first six months, bargain hunters can test the offer for only 19.99 euros per month, after which the price increases to 59.99 euros. One -off provision costs of 59.99 euros are also incurred. The minimum contract term is 24 months.

The first fiber optic house connections are even created free of charge in the pre -marketing phase. After completing the expansion, however, the price is up to 1,990 euros, provided that no corresponding tariff is completed at the time of the order. Details on the prices and tariffs can be read on the page of Deutsche Giganetz

It remains exciting to observe how the situation develops in the coming months and whether the necessary approvals can be obtained from the households in order to make the big goal of a nationwide fiber optic connection in Bremen-Nord reality. It remains to be seen whether the digital promise can be redeemed in dry reality.
