Blumenthal Street Festival: Visions of the future for the market square and Mühlenstrasse!
On Thursday, September 25th, the Blumenthal market square will be the scene of a festive street festival that will actively involve citizens in the redesign of their district. As the Weser Kurier reports, the Tischendorf planning office has been entrusted with the redesign of the market square and southern Mühlenstrasse since the beginning of the year in order to increase the quality of stay and reform traffic flows. The square, which many Blumenthal residents know as the “market square” between Landrat-Christians-Straße and Kapitain-Dallmann-Straße, has lost its relevance in recent years because regular markets no longer take place here and there are structural defects.
The festivities start at 4 p.m. and offer a colorful program for young and old. At the opening there will be a panel discussion with the planners, followed by two guided tours at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. during which the first designs will be presented. Activities such as pizza baking and creative activities are planned for children and young people, which are intended to emphasize that the voices of younger people should also be included in the planning process. “We attach great importance to citizen participation and would like to give the people of Blumenthal a real foretaste of the future use of the old town center,” emphasizes the planning team.
Citizen participation in focus
Urban development is a complex matter that combines social, economic and ecological aspects. Citizen participation plays a central role in this, as civil society also explains. Citizens are often only involved in planning processes late, although early information about the objectives is helpful for more scope for participation. The street festival in Blumenthal aims to do exactly that: those responsible are happy to receive suggestions and ideas from residents about the upcoming redesign.
“It is important that citizens have a say and can actively participate,” explains a spokeswoman for the planning office. This became clear at the nationwide urban development funding day in May, when the opinions of Blumenthal residents were collected. Public participation, which is also required by law, is promoted by the street festival in order to transparently inform citizens about the plans.
Celebrations and diversions
However, in order to hold the street festival, parts of the traffic will be temporarily redirected, particularly on Kapitan-Dallmann-Straße, Mühlenstraße and Lüder-Clüver-Straße. A dozen contacts will be on site, ready to answer questions and explain the plans. A culinary offering with drinks, bratwursts and ice cream rounds off the festival, which ends at 8 p.m. at the latest.
The redesign of the market square and Mühlenstrasse is programmed as a key project for the city of Bremen. The discussed renaming of the square, which has not housed a market for a long time, will also be discussed. “This is an exciting question that we would like to discuss with the population,” said the planners.
Visit the street festival and bring in your ideas and suggestions - because only together can Blumenthal become a more attractive and lively place for all residents!
