Open day in Lesum: New life in the Mühlenacker residential complex!

Lesum, Deutschland - in Lesum was celebrated with great anticipation of the conversions at the "Mühlenacker" accommodation. After more than two years of intensive work, the homely redesign has now been carried out. There were numerous necessary adjustments, including the creation of lockable storage rooms and the adaptation of fire protection. An outdoor staircase has also been added, which facilitates access to the parking spaces on the Klostermühlenweg. For example, the Weser-Kurier .

Another milestone is the improvement of noise protection by installing glass walls on the previously open stairwells. These measures help to increase the living standard of the 216 current residents of the system that come from different countries, including Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan. The open day on June 6, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., offers the opportunity to get to know the new conditions better. In addition, tours and an intercultural exchange between residents and guests should enliven the afternoon.

The culinary offers that Fingerfood from all over the world will present are particularly noteworthy - a festival of diversity! Astrid Steffens, the project manager, is positive about the conversion time and invites you to discover the new face of the residential complex.

The accommodation, which was originally opened in 2018 as a transition home with 270 seats, was converted into a house for permanent living in 2021 and now offers 80 apartments. The places were increased again due to the Ukraine war. The residents currently conclude rental contracts that are initially limited to one year. These developments reflect the growing demand for barrier -low apartments and show the need for supportive structures in the field of integration.

Support for better integration

The inner mission takes over the full -time care of the residents, which includes multilingual support in the Burglesum youth center and advisory services in Marßel. Integration pilots, language mediators and a team of specialists are ready to help the new neighbors to get used to it.

Our society faces the challenge of creating adequate living space for refugee people. For this purpose, the KfW has launched special funding for refugee accommodation, with a total volume of 300 million euros. This enables the creation of up to 30,000 accommodation for refugees. Interesting loans make it easier to re-new and convert accommodations, which represents significant support in the current situation, such as bamf found in a study that the majority of refugees in West German regions temporarily live in large facilities, while rural areas and their close community and increasingly gaining importance as a place of residence to the cheaper living space.

With the open house day, impressions of everyday life in the residential complex are to be taught and at the same time gained volunteers who want to get involved in the integration of the new neighbors. A good step in the right direction for a coexistence that relies on community and support.
