The tension is rising in the baseball scene: The Dortmund Wanderers have secured the coveted participation in the playoff games in the 2nd Bundesliga. Again Local compass reported that the Wanderers were without a game last weekend, but were able to celebrate their great success as their competitor, the Solingen Alligators, dropped points in an important game. This significantly hurt the Alligators' chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
What does this mean for the Wanderers? They have already safely achieved their goal, but the last two games of the regular season are crucial to secure an optimal position in the playoffs. On the last matchday, the Wanderers will play against Bundesliga reserves Untouchables Paderborn. To claim first place in the Northwest Division playoff rankings, they must win one of the two remaining games. A win against Paderborn would also mean a meeting with the Berlin Flamingos in the quarter-finals, which is scheduled to start on September 6th.
The playoff participants
The playoffs consist of the two best-placed teams eligible for promotion in the three northern divisions and the two best third-place teams. The following teams have already qualified for the 2025 playoffs:

- Berlin Flamingos (Vizemeister Nordost)
- Bremen Dockers (Meister Nord)
- Dohren Wildfarmers (Vizemeister Nord)
- Kiel Seahawks (Dritter Nord)
- Dortmund Wanderers (Nordwest)
- Neunkirchen Nightmares (Nordwest)
- Solingen Alligators/Wuppertal Stingrays (Nordwest)
All rounds of the playoffs are played as best-of-3 series. In the event of a tie, a playoff will be played over 7 innings. The grand finale will take place on October 11th.
The specter of relegation in the 1st Bundesliga
The first games of the playdowns have already begun. Next up for the Wanderers boys is a direct duel against the Berlin Flamingos, who they beat twice in the regular season. Here the Wanderers have to give everything to prevail against the dominance of the Flamingos and to achieve their goal for the season.
