Cell phone tower on Oeversberg: Is Vegesack ready for reception?
There is currently a lot going on in Bremen about telecommunications, especially in the Vegesack district. The Oeversberg could soon become the site of a new cell phone mast, as stated in a report by the Weser-Kurier. The Eubanet company from Ibbenbüren took over the planning for this construction project. However, before implementation can begin, various authorities, including the Vegesack Advisory Board, must give the green light.
However, no representative from Immobilien Bremen was present at the last advisory board meeting, which caused some frustration. Local office manager Gunnar Sgolik nevertheless presented the current status and informed those present about the background of the project. The Grohner harbor was originally considered as a location, but the planned height led to concerns and this location was rejected.
The new location and its significance
At the suggestion of Immobilien Bremen, the Oeversberg was chosen in order to close an existing supply gap in the O2 network. Thomas Pörschke from the Green Party expressed his interest in further information and criticized the absence of real estate in Bremen, while at the same time questions arose about the route and the roots of the surrounding trees. However, Sgolik was able to reassure: no trees should be felled and the access to the construction site must be at least three meters wide to enable smooth access.
Ingo Schiphorst from Voice Vegesack added that health aspects should also be taken into account and expressed the desire for a speaker from the Senator for Health. Advisory board spokeswoman Heike Sprehe (SPD) stated that the planned mast should be built far enough away from residential buildings. The location behind the former tennis courts could also enable floodlights for a newly built beach area, which would bring additional advantages.
Mobile phone coverage and public participation
The need for the new mast is particularly important given the current mobile phone coverage in Germany. Users can use an interactive mobile phone map from the Federal Network Agency to obtain comprehensive information about the various mobile phone standards 2G, 4G and 5G and even record dead spots, which allows the data from the mobile network operators to be checked. With this map, the Federal Network Agency is creating the opportunity to identify and address any supply bottlenecks in Bremen as well. In addition, the broadband atlas is a central information medium that is regularly updated and provides both landline and mobile phone information.
The project on the Oeversberg is a contribution to meeting these challenges and optimizing mobile phone coverage in Bremen. The members of the district parliament showed their approval when deciding on the mast location, but expressed concerns about the absence of those responsible from Bremen Real Estate at the meetings. An attentive ear for citizens' concerns continues to be of great importance.
While plans are being reviewed, it remains to be seen how the project will develop. A comprehensive exchange between citizens and decision-makers could help to clarify the issues surrounding the cell phone tower and its impact on the surrounding area.
