Train chaos in Bremen-Nord: delays and emergency bus traffic cause excitement!
These are currently turbulent times for travelers in Bremen-Nord. Since the beginning of the week there have been repeated cancellations and delays in train traffic, which can be attributed to short-term construction work by the railway subsidiary Infrago. These challenges were further compounded on Wednesday evening, September 24th, by a signal box malfunction in Burg. Fortunately, the disruption was resolved on Thursday morning, September 25th, but construction restrictions continue. The Regio-S-Bahn line 1 currently only runs every hour, which represents a significant difficulty for commuters.
Fortunately, it was decided to close the route completely on the night of Thursday to Friday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. in order to advance construction work. But it wasn't just the regular train connections that suffered from the disruptions. Many commuters found out about the signal box problems late because the timetable app and displays still showed the regular Verden terminus, even though the trains only went to Burg. Updating the information “took some time,” explained a spokesman, as the data had to be entered manually. At the same time, the employees were also busy setting up an emergency bus service.
The situation for commuters
For travelers, the change not only affects their planned trips, but also their scheduling. Nordwestbahn has announced that it will clarify the restrictions on replacement services with the company in charge, as the buses did not always run as planned and the exact number of canceled trips remained unclear. In addition to the signal box malfunction, there was a parallel closure of the route to Bremerhaven, which presented the control center with a major challenge. This had to take care of two lines at the same time, which didn't exactly help calm the situation.
Further construction work is pending
And that's not all: From September 29th to October 13th, 2025, further construction work will take place, which will severely affect train traffic on the RE 1 line between Hannover Hbf and Norddeich Mole. During this period, RE 1 trains will only run to Emden. Stops in Norddeich Mole, Norddeich, Norden and Marienhafe are completely eliminated. In addition, trains between Norddeich Mole and Bad Zwischenahn will be affected on the weekend, October 4th and 5th. Replacement buses will be provided to support travelers, but here too it is hoped that the timetable information will be updated quickly.
It is important for everyone affected to regularly obtain up-to-date information. Deutsche Bahn has set up a customer dialogue on 0511 45901645 to clarify questions and uncertainties. We hope that the construction work will be completed soon and travelers will be able to get to their destinations again without any problems.
Stay informed and plan your trips accordingly - Bremen-Nord currently has a lot to offer in terms of construction sites and traffic turmoil.
