Bremen is booming: 34 commercial areas secure jobs until 2030!

Today, Bremen can point to a large number of attractive commercial areas that not only invite new companies to settle, but also retain existing companies in the long term. According to information from Buten un Binnen, the state capital includes a total of 34 large commercial areas, spread over 28 in Bremen and 6 in Bremerhaven. These areas make up around 10% of Bremen's total urban area and even 20% in Bremerhaven.

The projects of the 2030 commercial development plan, which is based on the status of March 2023, aim to increase economic attractiveness and establish Bremen as a “productive city of the future”. The WFB Wirtschaftsförder Bremen GmbH takes care of the marketing of the commercial areas, while the BIS Bremerhaven Society for Investment Promotion and Urban Development mbH is active in Bremerhaven.

Diverse commercial areas

Bremen's commercial areas are as diverse as the demands of companies. Particularly noteworthy is the technology park with an area of 174 hectares, which offers space for around 510 companies and 15,500 employees. Numerous research institutes, such as ZARM and MPI, have settled here.

Bremen's city center, the most important retail location, is home to around 1,500 companies and 24,000 employees. In addition to being an economic hub, this area is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Roland and Town Hall. Another notable commercial area is Überseestadt, which, with its 300 hectares and around 1,200 companies, represents an attractive combination of business and living space.

The Bremen freight transport center (GVZ) offers space for around 160 companies on 475 hectares and is optimally connected to seaports and motorways. There is also another focus in Blumenthal, where 85 companies and around 1,000 employees work together. In Bremerhaven, the Seedeich business park in the fishing port is impressive, where around 400 companies from sectors such as the food industry, logistics and wind energy are based.

Future-oriented development

The commercial development program (GEP2030) lays the foundations for sustainable growth in Bremen as a business location. The numerous commercial areas are continuously adapted to changing requirements. Old buildings are being converted, brownfield sites are being developed and new companies are settling. Flexibility is the be-all and end-all here in order to keep Bremen attractive for various industries.

At this point, the investment of 21 million euros in the expansion of the Hansalinie business park must also be mentioned. These measures are intended not only to improve the infrastructure, but also to make an important contribution to the creation of new jobs.

The planned offer is supported by the various commercial areas, which are tailored to different needs. From the shopping center called Weserpark, which combines leisure activities and large-scale retail, to the Science Park, where knowledge work and high-tech go hand in hand - there will be something suitable for every industry in Bremen.

Overall, the exciting developments in the commercial landscape show that Bremen is determined to further expand its position as an attractive business location and to break new ground. This is the only way the city can remain attractive for the coming years and offer the companies based here a promising future.
