TuSG Ritterhude celebrates its first victory – LiGra II with an unexpected defeat!
In the Handball Regional Oberliga North, HSG LiGra II suffered a bitter defeat last weekend. In their game against SG Bremen-Ost there was the first defeat of the season for LiGra with 35:36, which meant that they had to give up the lead in the table to Bremen. In an exciting duel, both teams showed their best side, but HSG lacked the necessary bit of luck in the crucial moments. Weser courier reports on an intense game in which the HSG LiGra lost momentum in the second half.
On the other hand, TuSG Ritterhude celebrated a positive start to the season. With a 34:29 win against ATS Bexhövede, the team was finally able to record their first triumph. Things were already looking promising at halftime when Ritterhude took the lead with 20:16. Coach Katrin Harjes particularly praised Focke Benter for his ability to overcome the opponent's offensive defense with flying colors. Torge Baron and Jan-Patric Kretschmer were also highlighted for their strong performances. Kretschmer in particular ensured that the opponent's throws from the backcourt did not reach the target.
Interview with the HSG coach
After the game, HSG coach Clemens Böschen expressed disappointment about the simple mistakes his team made in the second half. “We let the ball be taken away from us too often and that ultimately cost us the points,” explained Böschen. Another downer was the substitution of Lars Nanninga due to injury, for whom the coach hopes the injury is not too serious. The performance of goalkeeper Martin Thöne was particularly positive, as he was able to save all four seven-meter shots and kept the team in the game for a long time.
The next round is already scheduled for next weekend. HSG LiGra II competes against MSG Spaden/LTS, while TuSG Ritterhude has the opportunity to continue its good run. Both teams hope to continue climbing with their current form curves and deliver exciting games.
Handball in Germany
If you look at the current trend in handball, it is obvious that the sport is very popular among Germans. The modern form of handball has its origins in this country, and German teams also attract crowds at major tournaments. This is reflected, among other things, in the number of spectators: last season, almost 1.6 million fans attended the handball Bundesliga games. Germany has a proud history in handball, with impressive successes at international level. The national team has won multiple world and European championship titles. According to the current statistics from Handball 100, enthusiasm for this sport continues to be encouraged in schools and clubs.
The HSG LiGra, which was founded in 2019, is now one of the main players in regional handball. With a clear club structure and committed coaches, it is only a matter of time before the successes are reflected in game operations. HVNB has the HSG LiGra firmly in mind and is following the team's development in the league very closely.
