Stormchaos in the northwest: fire brigade has 45 missions in Bremen!

A violent storm shaken Northern Germany last night and triggered numerous operations by the fire brigade. The thunderstorm ended the long-lasting heat wave and ensured an abrupt temperature and weather change. The Bremen fire brigade was demanded between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. with 45 missions, while violent gusts of wind and lightning strikes caused excitement throughout the region. Fortunately, Bremen was spared by injuries, but the situation was tense, as Buten and inner reported.

The missions in Bremen focused on fallen trees, broken branches and damaged vehicles. An incident in Ritterhude was particularly frightening, where after a lightning strike the roof structure of an apartment building went up in flames, which led to five injuries, including two firefighters. The affected building is uninhabitable for the time being, and the situation remained precarious. TAG24 affected regions is sometimes enormous.

missions throughout northern Germany

In Oldenburg and Ammerland, around 200 missions were reported based on similar circumstances. The fire brigade was also busy in Osterholz and Cuxhaven to eliminate fallen trees. Especially in the city of Bremerhaven, the firefighters had to act against two lightning strikes in houses, which fortunately did not cause major damage. The situation in Hamburg was comparable, where at temperatures up to 37 degrees, the highest value of the year, only slight storm damage and 20 missions were recorded.

On counties such as the district of Dithmarschen, additional lightning strikes were added that triggered smaller fires without injuring it. Also in Neuberend, district of Schleswig-Flensburg, there was a roof truss fire due to a lightning strike. Here, however, the use of the fire brigade remained successful, since two residents were able to flee outdoors in good time. Meteogroup names the region as particularly susceptible to such extreme weather events and emphasizes the multitude of storm lows that have been drawn in the past through northern Germany.

forecasts and outlook

A weather calming can be expected in the coming days, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). Cool sea air should bring lower temperatures and thus mitigate the extreme weather conditions. While the storm brought numerous challenges, it also showed the high commitment of the fire brigades and the cohesion of the communities in such difficult times.

How the weather develops remains to be seen. Either way, the Bremen fire brigade and its colleagues in the north have proven that they can react quickly and effectively in crisis situations to protect the population.
