Fake police officer attacks senior citizen in Habenhausen – police warn!

In a worrying incident, an 85-year-old man was attacked in Bremen-Habenhausen. On Monday morning, the senior received a call from perpetrators who posed as “profilers” and told him about alleged break-ins in his neighborhood. This perfidious scam uses the mask of security to create trust buten and within reported.

The man let the supposed investigator into his apartment, convinced that he would share information with him that could be important for his safety. But when suspicion arose and the 85-year-old tried to stop the perpetrator, he fled with cash and jewelry. The senior was injured and suffered several bruises and bruises. He had to be taken to hospital while the perpetrator escaped towards Strawberry Bridge.

New scams

Unfortunately, such cases are not isolated cases. A report from Federal Criminal Police Office shows that a new strategy has been observed among fraudsters since September 2024. These perpetrators, often from Russia, have specialized in acting as police officers and pretend to have to protect the victims' assets. They mostly contact older people via phone or WhatsApp and assure them that the security of their finances is at stake.

These criminal activities result in Ukrainian citizens in particular becoming targets. They are often pressured to transfer money to purge accounts and then receive fake confirmation letters. It is important that those affected do not fall for such schemes, as the police never ask for money transfers over the phone. The Federal Consumer Assistance advises: “End the conversation immediately and call the emergency number 133.”

Protective measures for seniors

In light of these events, it is essential that seniors and their relatives develop a high level of sensitivity. The current scams highlight the need to be vigilant and not give away sensitive information carelessly. Although it can be helpful to talk to neighbors and friends about such incidents, you should always listen to your intuition and, if in doubt, contact the police to be on the safe side.

In Bremen and beyond, it is not just about protecting individuals, but also about a social responsibility to take joint action against such fraud. The hope remains that through educational work and increased awareness, fewer seniors will become victims of such criminal activities.
