Bremen Marathon on Sunday: roads closed, public transport affected!

On Sunday, October 5th, the 20th Bremen Marathon starts with great fanfare. The starting signal will be fired on the market square at 9:30 a.m. and thousands of runners will set off on the 42.2 kilometer route. This leads through the heart of the city, from the town hall through the city center, along the picturesque Werdersee to the Botanical Garden and past the Universum through the Bürgerpark and Überseestadt. Finally, it goes along the Weser to the Weserstadion and back to the finish on the market square, as butenunbinnen.de reports.

The event will cause extensive road and traffic disruptions. The police have therefore closed numerous roads until the afternoon hours, which is testing drivers' patience. In addition, public transport, such as trams and buses, will also be affected between 3 a.m. and 6 p.m., as vbn.de reports.

Traffic disruptions and diversions

The effects of the marathon event can be felt in many areas of the city. The inner city, the eastern suburbs, Findorff, Überseestadt and Schwachhausen are particularly affected. Significant traffic jams and delays are to be expected for tram lines 2, 3 and 8 as well as numerous bus lines such as 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31. The regional bus lines in the Bremen/Lower Saxony transport association are also affected, including lines 101, 102, 120 and 121, which will not run in Huckelriede until around 2 p.m., as well as others whose timetables have been adjusted until around 3 p.m.

Current information on diversions and travel times is available online at www.bsag.de and via the FahrPlaner app. Notices at the stops also provide information about the changes. So you should inform yourself carefully before you travel!

Special recommendations

If you plan to come into the city on Sunday, you should prefer public transport or arrive early. Especially in popular places along the marathon route, things can get crowded at peak times and you would be well advised to avoid the immediate vicinity of the event. In a sense it's a little adventure - even for those who don't want to run themselves but want to watch the event. Volunteers will be stationed at key corners to provide visitors with information and tips.

Overall, the Bremen Marathon promises to be a big day for the city and preparations are in full swing. All participants and spectators are asked to behave considerately and follow the instructions of the stewards. So nothing stands in the way of a sporty Sunday!
