Empowerment for girls: New café in the girls_kulturhaus Bremen!
in the heart of Bremen, more precisely in the lively district of Ostertor, there is a special place for girls and young women: the "girls_kulturhaus" (m_kh). Diversity is very important here, because the M_KH is aimed not only at girls, but also on intersexual, non-binaries, trans and agendas between the ages of 7 and 27. This valuable facility is managed by the dynamic duo Pia Weber and Nabila Badirou, which together create an ambience in which young people can develop freely. The underlined in the name illustrates the variety of gender identities and lays an important basis for working in the house.
The M_KH offers a wide range of activities that focus primarily on empowerment and common good. The aim is not only to offer the participants a place for personal development, but also to promote self -determination and actual participation in social life. The girls_kulturhaus has set itself the goal of mastering everyday challenges and at the same time being a cozy meeting point for leisure activities. With various rooms and an inviting garden, the space is available for creativity and community, according to Spot Bremen.
diverse offers and groups
In the M_KH, a variety of groups and projects are offered. Particularly noteworthy is the new "café oasis", which opens its gates on Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Here the participants can process vegetables from their own garden and take part in exciting workshops. A new, barrier -low room with a kitchen is set up, which should be accessible not only for young people, but also for adults. In addition, handicrafts and painting activities take place regularly in the M_KH, for example in the creative workshop, which is open to the students of the Mayor-Smidt School on Tuesdays. On Wednesday evening, those interested can look forward to a martial art course.
- The group "Cool Girls* with impairment" (cm* MB), which has existed for around ten years, actively contributes to the inclusiveness in the M_KH.
- Another important project is "my body-my house", which offers self-assertion workshops for young people between the ages of 11 and 16.
- In addition, there is the "black girl*group" and the group "Strong girls*" who support young people with escape experiences.
With the focus on anti -discrimination work and feminist values, the M_KH creates real shelters for empowerment. This orientation is particularly important because many girls, especially those affected by intersectional discrimination, often remain "invisible". Filia's girls' emphasis program has been promoting projects such as the M_KH since 2012 and aims to strengthen girls and young women and convey leadership qualities to them, as can be read at the Filia Frauenstiftung.
The girls_kulturhaus is a lively place where not only different gender identities are made visible, but also a space for creative exchange and personal development. Here it is actively working on taking responsibility and discovering your own skills. The mixture of leisure, creativity and empowerment makes the M_KH a place where diversity is not only tolerated, but actively lived.
