Art event in Bremen: Isa Fischer presents watercolors in the pumping station!
A feast for the senses awaits visitors in the old pumping station in Bremen-Findorff. On November 2nd, 2025, the Bremen artist Isa Fischer will present her latest works under the title “Bremen in ink and watercolor”. The exhibition is a wonderful look at the cityscapes that Fischer has skillfully captured in her watercolor ink drawings. Anyone interested is cordially invited to stop by the open museum afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and be enchanted by Fischer's art. Admission is free, although donations for the historic pumping station are warmly welcomed, as kreiszeitung.de reports.
Isa Fischer is known as a “house illustrator” and her works have already adorned popular books such as “100 Bremen Houses” and “Ships, Sheds, Warehouses”. At this special event, her new Bremen calendar for 2026 will also be presented, alongside other sooner products such as books, puzzles and postcards, which she will personally sign. The event not only offers art, but also insights into the technical and cultural history of wastewater disposal and urban hygiene in Bremen. Guided tours are held at 4 p.m., during which the historic machine hall and an underground sewer can be viewed.
The Old Pumping Station: A place with history
The Old Pumping Station, located on Salzburger Straße in Bremen, is a listed industrial building and was operated as a wastewater pumping station from 1915 to 1995. The entire facility has been a listed building since 1995 and, as a museum, makes an important contribution to presenting the history of wastewater disposal in Bremen. This historical site is now run on a voluntary basis by the association of the same name, which has been intensively committed to the preservation and cultural use of the pumping station since 1997. This was recently recognized with the Bremen Monument Preservation Prize, which the association received in 2010.
The ensemble of the Old Pumping Station includes not only the main pumping station I, but also a hall, a residential building and a washhouse, all designed in the style of reform architecture with neo-baroque elements. After all, not only is the history of wastewater disposal kept alive here, but space is also created for creative events that shed light on the relationship between technology and culture. Another highlight are the tours of the original underground sewer, which give an impression of the impressive technology of the past.
There is also free parking nearby for anyone who wants to visit the Old Pump Station, and access is largely barrier-free, with the exception of the basement. For art lovers and history buffs, this place is a true gem in Bremen that you definitely shouldn't miss.
