History you can touch: Kaisenhaus Museum opens its doors!
History is kept alive in Bremen even in these summer months. The Kaisenhaus Museum in Waller Feldmark has established itself not only as a place of remembrance, but also as a cultural highlight. Until October, the museum is open to interested visitors every second Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A quick visit to the museum's garden café ensures that you can be pampered not only with knowledge, but also with homemade cake and a lovingly set table. Admission is free, but the association, which has been running this historic museum since it was designated a cultural monument in 2024, is happy to receive donations.
The roots of the Kaisenhaus lie in the period after the Second World War, when Mayor Wilhelm Kaisen legalized living in allotment gardens in August 1945. This is how the Kaisenhäuser emerged from simple arcades, which became a refuge for many people due to the housing shortage at the time. The Kaisenhäuser association was founded to save an original Kaisenhaus from 1957 from demolition. Today the museum has four exhibition rooms with authentic exhibits that bear witness to the period of struggle for survival and reconstruction.
Special events and insights
On August 17th, the museum will be broadcasting a special program: the topic “The destruction of the west of Bremen in August 1944” will be discussed. There are also historical images and contemporary witness voices that bring the events of that time to life. Angela Piplak from the Walle History Office will give an informative lecture outdoors from 11 a.m.
For those wishing to deepen their interest in history, staff can provide introductions if required. A very special experience on September 14th will be the “Open Monument Day”, when the museum opens its doors and invites you to learn about the remarkable history of the Kaisenhäuser.
