Farge-Rekum: New sports facility celebrates opening and archaeological finds!

In Bremen-Farge, the new sports facility of the Farge-Rekum gymnastics and sports association will be ceremoniously opened next weekend. After lengthy delays due to planning processes and construction work, the facility has finally been completed, having overcome the project costs of approximately 2.9 million euros. Katja Beyer, the club's chairwoman, is visibly pleased and presents the new facilities during training for four soccer teams. "It was a central topic in our board meetings for years. Hundreds of emails were exchanged with planners and authorities," said Beyer. Weser courier reports that the project was documented with a construction site diary, which not only recorded progress, but also increased awareness of the club's location and attracted new members. The club now has an impressive 1,000 athletes.

What can visitors expect at the opening? Numerous events are scheduled from September 19th to 21st. On Friday there will be speeches, sports, football games and live music. Saturday is dominated by a football tournament, a flea market and information and entertainment stands, while on Sunday there are handball games and special offers for children and adults.

Archaeological finds on the sports field

The story is made particularly exciting by archaeological discoveries that were made during construction work on the sports field. Archaeologists had come across fireplaces, decorated pottery shards and bones from the Bronze and early Iron Ages. Matthias Antkowiak from the state archeology suspects that it could be a burial ground with urn burials from the Bronze Age. The first analyzes have not yet been completed, but the finds show that the Rekum-Farge area has been a popular settlement site since the Neolithic period Bremen Senate Press Office.

However, the discoveries have no influence on the renovation of the sports field or the construction of a new elementary school, as a preliminary investigation was carried out within the framework of the Monument Protection Act before the construction work. Antkowiak geht davon aus, dass möglicherweise noch weitere Funde gemacht werden, da die Fundstelle seit den 1930er-Jahren bekannt ist.

Sustainable sports infrastructure

An important aspect in the construction of the new sports facility was planning and ecological sustainability. In order to meet ecological requirements, many factors are taken into account when building sports facilities, which are also examined by the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp). BISp emphasizes that in addition to ecological factors, social and economic factors must also be taken into account in planning. Such considerations can help to further develop the sports infrastructure in Germany in a future-oriented manner.

Overall, it can be seen that the new sports facility in Farge-Rekum will not only be a sporting center, but also a cultural and historical center that could attract both athletes and history buffs. A place that is heading into the future in the best possible way without forgetting the roots of the past.
