New wellcome location in Bremen: Support for new parents!
There is reason to be happy in the north of Bremen: a new location for the popular wellcome project has been opened in Freizi Alt-Aumund. Families who feel overwhelmed after the birth of their child can find a helping hand at Aumunder Heerweg 89. The opening was ceremoniously celebrated by Dr. Accompanied by Claudia Schilling, Senator for Labor, Youth and Social Affairs, and Ilsabe von Campenhausen, Managing Director of wellcome gGmbH. Their presence underlines the importance of this initiative, which aims to support new parents during the often challenging first year of life.
In her speech, Dr. Schilling emphasized the importance of prevention and early childhood education while taking on the patronage of the project. “Families need support that is independent of social background, income or family constellation,” she explained. And this is exactly where wellcome comes into play. The location in Bremen-Nord offers individual help from volunteer “wellcome angels”. These can provide valuable relief in everyday life, be it babysitting, playing with siblings or accompanying you to doctor's appointments. 20 of these angels are currently working in Bremen and are tackling the challenges that young families often face, such as isolation and high levels of stress.
The concept of support
wellcome has set itself the goal of enabling a stress-free and loving start to family life. The program offers a modern form of neighborhood help that can particularly benefit families without a support network. Parents also benefit from the professional support provided by the site's team coordinator, Sabine Schlüter. It ensures that the support is optimally tailored to the individual needs of the families.
The offer of help is flexible and ranges from once to twice a week for a few hours, with the assignments and tasks being agreed according to the family's individual ideas and needs. Regardless of their social status, all families can access this help in the first year after the birth. The innovative structure of the program, in which over 250 wellcome locations were opened nationwide between 2008 and 2013, provides valuable support in the everyday lives of young parents.
Costs and contact
To make it easier to access this help, the costs are manageable: there is a one-off placement fee of 10 euros, plus up to 5 euros per hour for on-site support. Nevertheless, no one should be prevented from receiving this valuable help by financial hurdles. Interested parents can contact the new location on Mondays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., either by email (bremen.nord@wellcome-online.de) or by telephone on 0421 / 34 03 180.
The wellcome initiative has not only established itself as a contact point, but also offers a community in which parents are not left alone. Support from neighbors in the form of volunteer angels could be the key to easing the often stressful and challenging everyday life after the birth of a child.
