Helsingborger Platz: Renovation delayed due to inner city project!

In Bremen-Nord, Helsingborger Platz remains the focus of urban development. The original plan was to complete the redesign of the square by autumn 2025. But work is currently at a standstill because priorities have shifted. A project in Bremen city center has priority in order to secure important funding, like this Weser courier reported.

Aygün Kilincsoy, spokesman for the Senator for Construction, Mobility and Urban Development, confirms the temporary break and explains that human resources have been reallocated to the climate-friendly pilot project in the city center. The detailed planning for Helsingborger Platz is currently underway, after which the work will be put out to tender. Construction is scheduled to start next year.

Planned changes to the place

The redesign of the approximately 500 square meter area includes fundamental measures: In addition to unsealing and replacing the stones with a green lawn, hedges will also be planted and new seating created. A path is being created and play equipment and a drinking water fountain are also being planned. To calm traffic, bollards are installed to reduce the number of cars passing through. The night bus route has also had a new route since last winter.

The initiative to regulate the pigeon population at Helsingborger Platz is also interesting: Brebau is planning to set up a supervised pigeon house in the attic of the house at Helsingborger Platz 2.

Climate-friendly district heating network in Bremen-Nord

Another pioneering project in Bremen-Nord concerns the construction of a climate-friendly district heating network. On September 26, 2024, a road usage agreement was signed between the city of Bremen and enercity Contracting Nord GmbH. This allows the use of public transport routes for the construction and operation of the district heating network. The Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science, Kathrin Moosdorf, and Dr. Manfred Schüle, managing director of enercity Contracting Nord GmbH, signed the contract, which was concluded after a Europe-wide tender process Senate Press Office reported.

The aim of this project is to use the waste heat from the Blumenthal thermal power plant to reduce fossil fuels and CO2 emissions. Initially, larger heat consumers, such as public buildings and residential areas, should be connected to the network. Construction work for the line to the Bremen-Nord Clinic will begin in 2024, and the first heat delivery to new large-scale customers is planned for the end of 2025 City and factory supplemented.

With these developments, Bremen-Nord shows that not only is it being beautifully redesigned, but important steps are also being taken in terms of climate protection. A positive direction that benefits all citizens.
