This new command, which was officially established on October 1, 2024 and combines the previous structures of the armed forces base and the medical service, has set itself the goal of bundling various expertise and taking on an essential role in the Bundeswehr. Lieutenant General Gerald Funke, who previously headed the logistics command in Erfurt, was appointed as the first commander and emphasized that defensive capability affects all levels of society. “The disinterest in the Bundeswehr is over,” said Funke. The efficiency of the logistics forces is ensured by the logistics command, which comprises around 16,000 service posts and innovatively brings new logistics capabilities to the support area. It ensures that all basic logistics services can be provided both within Germany and abroad. Mobile logistics troops form a close-knit network capable of supplying emergency responders on site with everything they need, including spare parts, ammunition and fuel.
