Shock in Bremen: Police uncover drug and weapons smuggling!

Bremen, September 28, 2025 - The Bremen police carried out intensive checks in the train station and neighborhood areas on the nights of September 26th and 27th. In cooperation with the federal police, these measures were aimed at combating drug-related crime and security in the city, especially in the weapons ban zone. The checks, which took place from 6:30 p.m. around the main train station, Philosophenweg and Tivoli, attracted numerous people and led to significant seizures.

In total, over 140 people were checked and searched. During this operation, knives, cash, cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis and prescription medication were seized, among other things. What was particularly sensational was the discovery of a bunker on Linienstraße in which marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine were stored. Officers also issued nine expulsions and initiated charges under the Medicines Act after a suspect was caught with prescription painkillers near the Gustav Deetjen Tunnel. Other operations included intervening in an incident in which an attacker struck with a glass bottle. The suspect was then arrested.

Focus on no weapons zone

As news.de reports, such controls are part of the police's long-term strategy to increase security in the Bahnhofsvorstadt and the neighboring districts. Since the introduction of the weapons ban zone in 2009, there has been a strict ban on carrying weapons and dangerous objects. This regulation was tightened in May 2011, when the wearing of clothing with certain symbolic emblems was banned. This approach is intended to make the social space safer for citizens. The aim is to effectively protect citizens.

On the same nights, violations of the glass bottle ban were also punished and there were physical attacks on police patrols. In addition, the police had to intervene during child protection checks and repatriate a missing minor. A total of 15 residence investigations were recorded, which shows how intensive the efforts are to ensure safe, public coexistence.

Insights into past controls

The police carried out similar checks at the beginning of September. According to [tagesschau.de](https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/regional/niedersachsen/nachtkontrollen-am-hauptbahnhof-bremen-polizei-stellen- Waffen-und-drogen-sicher,nachtkontrollen-100.html), the focus was on more than 60 people at the main train station at the time, which resulted in 24 searches. Here too, numerous knives and a brass knuckles were confiscated, with 15 expulsions being given. These controls were partially disrupted by a group of 40 people who tried to interrupt them. This shows that the police not only react to the violations, but also want to proactively ensure more security.

Overall, the city of Bremen is determined to make the streets safer and give citizens a feeling of security through this continuous presence and monitoring. Further controls have already been announced to ensure the effectiveness of these strategies. With a watchful eye, it is hoped that anti-drug crime and security efforts will bear fruit in the long term.
