SG Achim/Baden shines in test games: two wins before the start of the league!
The handball players from SG Achim/Baden played two test games against SG Bremen-Ost and the Dutch club E&O Emmen last weekend in Baden's Lahofhalle. The aim of these intensive training sessions was to optimally prepare for the start of the regional league on September 6th. Despite the summer temperatures, the team around coach Florian Schacht put in a lot of effort.
In the first meeting on Saturday, SG Achim/Baden emerged victorious against SG Bremen-Ost, which is coached by ex-Achimer Luke Pehling, with 33:26 (18:15). Schacht noticed that his players missed some chances unnecessarily. The game was fairly even in the first half until the Achim team gained a three-goal lead at halftime. After the break they quickly moved ahead to 24:18 and thus showed their effectiveness.
Strong defensive performances
The performance of goalkeeper Mirco Thalmann, who has recovered from a torn tendon in his thigh and shone with strong saves, was particularly positive. Another intensive training session was on the agenda on Sunday, followed by the second test match against E&O Emmen, which the SG won 31:24 (13:13). Here, Schacht was very satisfied with the defensive performance, especially the 3:2:1 coverage. The Achim team only conceded six goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half - a real ray of hope!
Nevertheless, Schacht emphasized that there was still room for improvement in attack, as the team made 17 technical errors in the first half. Even though the stress of the intensive training was noticeable, he didn't want to criticize his players too much. “The implementation of our training content is more important than the result,” says the trainer. The team has trained hard over the last few weeks to internalize their strategies well.
Training as the key to success
Before these test games, SG Achim/Baden had already held a training camp that ended with a 34:31 win against the association league team ATSV Habenhausen II. According to Schacht, the team shows a high level of commitment, even if everything is not going perfectly. Preparation for the new season is being actively pursued, with particular attention being paid to cover work. An offensive game variant should also be tried out in order to be more flexible.
New signing Noah Dreyer made a positive impression and is fit and motivated after his return from Colombia. The goal of SG Achim/Baden is clear: They want to start the new adventure of the handball regional league with strong training content and optimal condition. It remains to be seen how the boys will develop in the coming weeks - but one thing is certain: something is happening!
