SG Bremen-Ost: Coach Pehling sees positive developments before the start of the season!

The handball season is just around the corner and SG Bremen-Ost (SGBO) has completed its preparation with a solid performance at the Erima Cup. trainer Luke Pehling, who recently took over the reins of the team, said after the tournament he was pleased with the progress of his team, which finished third.

However, the start was bumpy. In the first match against TV Neerstedt, the SGBO had to admit defeat 12:19. Pehling justified the defeat with understandable challenges, such as the absence of two backfield players with long-term injuries and other pivots. These circumstances particularly challenged captain Felix Mähr, who was the only pivot on the field.

Progress and positive approaches

However, over the course of the tournament, SG Bremen-Ost showed continuous improvement. The second game against TV Cloppenburg ended just 21:23, and Pehling recognized progress in the performance and body language of his players. In the final duel with TV Oyten, the team was able to celebrate an encouraging 23:21 victory, which is seen as a positive sign for the coming league season.

Despite the two initial defeats in the Erima Cup against SG Achim/Baden, Pehling remains optimistic. He sees potential in the team's development and emphasizes the need to improve defensive coordination and reduce missed throws. The team spirit and the harmonious relationship between players and coaching staff should not be underestimated.

A new trainer with experience

Luke Pehling has made a name for himself in recent years after he ended his active career at SG Achim/Baden due to irreparable cartilage damage in his knee. With his long experience as a youth coach, especially at SG Bremen-Ost, he has a good knack for the new role as head coach. He is now taking over from long-time coach Thomas Panitz and has already hired an assistant coach. Phillip Grieme will support Pehling after previously working at ATSV Habenhausen II.

The goal of SG Bremen-Ost is clear: promotion to the top league is on the agenda. The team is currently in a solid sixth place and has a good chance of being three points ahead of seventh place. The return of several top performers at the start of the season gives cause for hope.

A look at the challenges

However, the challenges in competitive sports, especially in handball, should not be underestimated. A study on the psychosocial conditions of decisions in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries shows that many athletes often do not communicate their pain. This problem is also important for coaches like Pehling, who wants to actively contribute to injury prevention through better communication and support for his players. Close collaboration between athletes, coaches and medical staff could help minimize the health risks in handball, such as Research shows.

With these thoughts in mind, SG Bremen-Ost is starting an exciting season. The anticipation is palpable and everyone involved is excited to see what the coming weeks will bring. Pehling and his team have created good conditions to be competitive in the top league and perhaps even achieve promotion.
