Wolfsburg remains unbeaten: spectacular win against Werder Bremen!

An exciting duel in the women's Bundesliga between Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg took place in the Weserstadion on September 23, 2025. Both teams had impressed before the meeting in the new season and were level in the table. Expectations were high and the spectators could look forward to a thrilling game.

VfL Wolfsburg scored a quick goal right at the start of the game. Beerensteyn converted a rebound from a shot from Blomqvist in the 6th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. But the joy was short-lived because Werder responded promptly. Schmidt took advantage of an unfortunate clearance by Wilms in the 8th minute and scored the equalizer in the top corner. It was a hot beginning that wasn't over yet.

A gripping back and forth

After just nine minutes, the guests from Wolfsburg had the advantage again. Beerensteyn had the right feeling and scored after a dream pass from Lattwein to make it 2-1. The game remained exciting, with further chances for both teams. With a header from Brand after a corner from Huth in the 55th minute, Wolfsburg finally made the final score 3-1. Wolfsburg's dominance after the restart was reflected in their greater control of the game.

Werder keeper Peng prevented an even greater defeat in the 81st minute by parrying a free kick without any problems. But the game was not just about goals, but also because of the impressive performance of Kathrin Hendrich, who celebrated her 300th game in the women's Bundesliga in the 72nd minute.

Progress and challenges

Both teams had previously impressed with strong performances in the season. Werder Bremen under coach Fritzy Kromp had collected valuable points with a late win against TSG Hoffenheim and a draw against Freiburg. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, took the win against Werder after only scoring in stoppage time in a dramatic game against 1. FC Köln, which helped them get off to a positive start to the season.

The history of the duels between the two teams shows a clear dominance of Wolfsburg. In a total of 16 matches, Wolfsburg was able to emerge victorious 15 times. However, the last meeting ended in a 3-3 draw, which gave Werder their first point against the Wolves in the league.

While Wolfsburg's coach Stephan Lerch sees a need for improvement in exploiting opportunities and controlling the game, Larissa Mühlhaus from Werder believes that there is still potential for optimization in the offensive. The absence of Alexandra Popp, who suffered a bruised lower right leg, could also pose a challenge for Wolfsburg.

For the 2,232 spectators in the Weserstadion it was a committed performance, which left them with mixed feelings after the final whistle. Wolfsburg won 3-1, marking another victory in this young season. The Women's Bundesliga promises exciting encounters in the future too - who knows what the next games will bring!
