Price increases at the Bremen Freimarkt: What can visitors expect?

Today it starts in Bremen! On October 17, 2025, the Freimarkt will celebrate its 990th edition. The festive opening will take place at 4 p.m. on the Bürgerweide, and at 9:45 p.m. a spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky. The open market lasts until November 2nd and awaits visitors with a colorful mix of food, drinks and rides.

In the coming days, visitors can look forward to a rich program. The Small Free Market on the Market Square opens earlier today, at 10am, which is a great opportunity to enjoy the anticipation of the big attractions. For the entire duration of the festival, the regular opening hours are from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Sunday to Thursday) and until midnight (Friday and Saturday). Exceptions apply for opening day and some special dates.

Prices on the open market

As always, the free market brings with it changes this year. Susanne Keuneke, the chairwoman of the Bremen Showmen's Association, has announced that the fair fees have been increased. This change could have a direct impact on prices, which will make many visitors sit up and take notice. For example, beer prices currently vary depending on the stand:

  • 0,25 Liter Bier an der Elchbar: 3,50 Euro
  • 0,25 Liter Bier im Brauhaus: 4 Euro
  • 1 Liter Bier im Bayernzelt: 14,60 Euro

The dishes are also varied and not too expensive. Roasted almonds are available from 4 euros per 100 gram bag, while a small portion of ice cream is available for 3 euros. If you like it hearty, you can fortify yourself with pretzels or bratwursts for around 4 euros each.

Rides and attractions

The entertainment offering is extensive. Almost 300 showmen promise fun for young and old, including five large rides and 23 other rides. The prices for the exciting rides are between 3 and 8 euros:

  • Autoscooter: ab 3 Euro für Kinder, ab 4 Euro für Erwachsene
  • Riesenrad: ca. 6 Euro für Kinder, 8 Euro für Erwachsene
  • Break Dancer: ab 5 Euro
  • Wilde Maus und Wildwasserbahn: jeweils ab 5 Euro für Kinder, 7 Euro für Erwachsene

A special highlight is the Bremen free ticket, which is valid on at least 46 rides; This could be the last year in which it can be used.

Tips for arrival and safety

Visitors are asked to use public transport as there are no parking spaces directly at the Freimarkt. The park-and-ride Freimarkt ticket on line 6 costs 4.55 euros, which should prove to be a practical solution for many. Security precautions are particularly high this year: awareness teams and a specially trained security service are available to help in the event of harassment.

Some things are also prohibited on the event grounds, including weapons, glass bottles and animals. Violations can be punished with fines of up to 2,500 euros. It is therefore advisable to pay attention to the rules and be well informed before diving into the fun.
